Hello, people.
Original webcam on my Toshiba laptop has been acting out lately – turning off by itself due to a smallest movement. I bought a new webcam that is connected via USB port. It works just fine but when when I turn on skype or messenger original webcam in my laptop turns on.
How do I get my new webcam work?

Ok. So u need to start your skype, then go to settings and find webcam settings. There u need to choose your main webcam from a drop down menu, ok? So u have to select your new one there. Then click apply and ok. And that’s it. Similar principle goes for msn as well. Good luck.

I have the old logitech quick cam web and it doesnt seem to work with skype? It gives me the option to do video chat but the web cam doesnt display a video of me? The camera should work but if anyone knows please comment. Thanks!

You could try this:

1. Go to the Tools menu and select Options…
2. In the options dialog select Video Settings from the categories on the left hand side.
3. Check “Enable Skype Video” and select your webcam from the list.
(you can also check “Start my video automatically” if you want)

Now, when you start a call, if you haven’t activated “Start my video automatically” in the video options you need to press “Start My Video”.

A Person who needs to know: what is skype? How does it work and how do I get it on my computer?
What is SKYPE, how does it work and what is involved in hooking it up to my computer? Is SKYPE a program that has to be bought in the store? Is there a monthly charge for using skype? What is this all about.

Skype is one of the most used application as a VoIP application which you can get for free.

With Skype, you not only can make voice calls using your computer. Besides voice calls. Skype also has the standard multifunction instant chatting feature too ( typing a conversation, emoticon, user avatar, etc) and also allows you to have a video conference, group video sharing.

Group video sharing on Skype is the main focus for the latest Skype version.

Two people video chat is free. Three people and up to ten, can be a monthly subscription, or a Day Pass cost. Group video costs are found under Skype Premium.

To call phones and mobiles from Skype you will need to buy some Skype Credit or a subscription.

Simply download and install Skype.

Turning off your firewall is abit major just because skype will not work. Best thing to do is just add skype to the allowed list. Depending on what firewall you have but you have to go in to your firewall settings then there will be a setting to chage the allowed and blocked list. Just add skype to the allowed list.

I moved away from all of my friends a few months ago. I have one friend who has suggested Skype. Can anyone tell me about it? Is it worth my time? Thank you for your help.

Funny that you ask, since I just got it yesterday. Lost my phone, and can’t afford really much else.

In terms of affordability, it’s pretty much worth it. The quality is great and the calls are extremely cheap within the country. They are literally like two cents a call. You buy credit which is usually ten dollars at a time. And if you want to make it a bit more permanent, it costs around 18 dollars for 3 month sub. for an internet phone number, this way people can call you too. I haven’t got it yet since I”m strapped for cash. They also have a 12 month sub. for 60 bucks. and if you think about it, it’s pretty much worth it in comparison.

Downfall is, its on the internet, so its not exactly mobile. So if you’re content with it, I’d say go for it. It works, your voice comes in clear to the person you talk to (that is, if you have a good mic or a mic at all on your computer) and the people you call comes in pretty well too.

OH, one more thing. Another downside is, if you don’t get an internet number, I believe it issues you a random number so when you call, it shows up as a funky number. Which means, alot of people assume it’s a telemarketer, might want to try to give your friends and family a heads up so they know its you, and you don’t waste that precious two cents!

Well i have a dell inspiron 1545 and for some reason when ever i go on skype 1. my camera wont work. and 2. my im on skype somthing pops up and tells me ” error, check your skype insulation” and when i click okay, it closes my skype. and i never get to talk on skype. Any ideas what i could do to stop this?
And i have re installed it. And Still it wont work.

I HIGHLY doubt that it says “insulation”. That is of course unless you downloaded the “Skype for Cold Houses edition…..

I’m guessing it said something along the lines of: Check Skype Installation. In which you need to reinstall skype.

I have a Logitech microphone that I would like to setup to work with Skype (Windows XP).

The computer recognizes the microphone, and I can record through Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder.

I have set Skype to be in control of my microphone settings, but it still doesn’t work. Any suggestions?

run the skype audio video setup.

there is obviosly a DROPDOWN menu that you have NOT
dropped down to the right MIC yet.

Bailey: How can I make Skype work properly again?
About a week or so ago, Skype stopped sending my messages to contacts and will not show any of them as online. I have asked one of my friends at school to learn if they were offline and learned they were online the entire time. I’m really at a loss as to what to do.

I have already tried to uninstall and reinstall it. This didn’t work. I’ve also read that Norton’s could be the problem ( I have it) but there wouldn’t be any way for me to get rid of it since my dad wouldn’t let me change it.

All help would be appreciated. Does anyone know what to do?

check in norton firewall settings to make sure that skype is not being blocked by Norton.

Skype runs on port 80, so make sure to check that port too if it is allowed in firewall of norton. Since norton is running so windows inbuild firewall will be disabled.

also in skype´s preferences, check to see any proxy is not in function that might be blocking the connection.

there are alot things but the ones I mentioned are basics to start with.

I live in germany and i have downloaded skype on my phone. If i call someone at their land line (home phone) in the states from skype, where is skype going to charge me to? I haven’t given them a credit card number or anything so where will they charge to? and If I use skype to call the states from a computer, where will it charge to? thanks

Try “calling someone at their land line (home phone) in the states from skype”.
Then you will see easy to follow instructions on the screen.
Can’t miss them unless you look away from the screen.
